Last month's presentation at the SMRT conference in Seattle was a smashing success. The conference was spectacular, the room was packed with nearly 400 technologists from around the globe, and there were many great questions. Thank you again to the conference organizers and to our sponsors, Lindgren RF Enclosures and Kopp Development.
Coming up this Sunday, June 11th, Robert and I will be presenting again. this time at the 14th World Congress of Radiologists and Radiographers, held in conjunction with the ASRT annual meeting. This educational opportunity is being made possible by the underwriting sponsorship of Ansul MR Fire Extinguishers and Lindgren RF Enclosures and.
In addition to our primary underwriters we also wish to thank our supporting sponsors, Kopp Development and Mednovus SAFESCAN, each makers of ferromagnetic detection systems for MRI suites. Without each and every one of them, we wouldn't be able to share this information on MRI facility safety and design with such a broad audience.
We would also like to announce that we have established a dedicated webpage in support of the forthcoming MRI-Safety Week. The information we've collected is designed to share information and to help imaging providers promote and improve patient safety.
As always, we hope that you will contact us if you have any questions about anything you read in the newsletter, or if we can be of any assistance to you.

What started as a small grassroots effort has begun to draw interest and support from across the U.S. and around the world! Interest in MRI safety issues is at an unprecedented level and there’s still well over a month to go before we even reach MRI-Safety Week.
In an effort to disseminate information about MRI-Safety Week and to encourage participation from all sectors involved in MRI services, we have posted a number of web pages with information and resources for imaging providers, vendors, patients and the general public.

What House M.D. Teaches Us About MRI And Safety
By Tobias Gilk
I’ve always been a sucker for medical dramas and House M.D. is no different. It’s one of only two television shows that I’ll make a conscious effort to watch. Despite its transparent formulaic plotlines, I just can’t help myself. And while I haven’t come to fear that every sniffle I develop is really the onset of some bizarre hemorrhagic fever, I am aware that many viewers see the highly-fictionalized accounts of imaging as something approaching reality.
So for those who’ve had to endure the “but this isn’t what I saw on TV last week” refrain from patients, I offer The Top 5 Things I’ve Learned About MRI From House M.D.

Magnet Room Finishes:
Protect MRI Safety And Efficiency When You Build.
By Tobias Gilk
Preliminary data from some federally funded MRI facilities suggests that there is a strong business case for spending $20,000 or more, annually, just to reduce the likelihood of accidents in the MRI suite. Incidents in the magnet room are often so costly because of combinations of lost revenue, repair expenses, and medical care and litigation if a patient or staff member becomes injured. While accidents in the MRI suite stem from many different origins, a frequent cause is maintenance or service personnel entering the magnet room.
What if just by choosing appropriate lights, wall surface, flooring and ceiling materials for your magnet room you could slash the need for periodic maintenance and, as a result, help to protect magnet up-time and reduce the risks of service-interrupting accidents? The good news is, you can!
