"Summer time... and the livin' is easy."
Well, despite the fact that this song has been running through my head for the last several weeks, the activities of this summer are suggesting a slight lyrical change to, "summer time and the livin' is busy."
A prime example is our current preparations for AHRA's annual meeting. This year we're expanding from our prior presentations to address design considerations for the entire radiology department, from global strategic planning to siting of individual modalities.
We are honored to have the support of a number of sponsors who are making our presentation possible. Our main sponsor for our presentation on Complete Radiology Department Planning is Kopp Development.
Additional support for our presentation to AHRA's annual meeting is being provided by ETS Lindgren, Tyco Healthcare, and Mass Cabinets.
We're looking forward to our AHRA presentation in just a couple of weeks and we hope to have an opportunity to meet with you in person! Can't make it to AHRA? Then look under 'News Bite' below for information on our other confirmed presentations.
And while we'd love for everyone to join us for each of our presentations, we know that these newsletters are a great source for a good portion of what we present on. This makes us all the more happy to share with you the name of Robert Pearsall of Vermont, USA shared our May issue of the MRI Newsletter with 5 colleagues, and his name was drawn to receive the subscriber's version of the MRI Newsletter for the rest of the year!
You can win a full access subscription too. Just use the forward feature at the foot of this email to be automatically entered. Look at the 'Share The News' section below for all the details.
As always, please contact us if you have questions about anything you read in the newsletter, or if we can be of any assistance to you.

Forward it to 5 or 10 MRI colleagues and you help to assure that we'll draw your name! But you must use the link at the bottom of this email if you want to be entered into this month's drawing!

MRI-Planning Announces Confirmed Presentations!
Act now to join us at AHRA's Annual Meeting, July 8-12, in Orlando, FL. In July we will be presenting design principles for whole radiology departments, allowing providers to work with their designers to develop more effective and efficient facilities.
We also have confirmed presentations scheduled for the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management's annual meeting, and the SMRT Syracuse Regional meeting, both for this fall.

MRI Suite Construction Costs: The Million-Dollar Question
By Robert Junk, AIA, AHRA and Tobias Gilk
The question we get asked most often is, “How much does it cost to build an MRI suite?” While there are many factors unique to individual facilities, we have outlined some of the basic ‘rule of thumb’ benchmarks that you can use to evaluate project budgets.
Keep in mind that “one size does not fit all” and that those unique factors will impact the total project costs, but this should provide you with an excellent starting point.

Magnet Upgrade Path
Part I of II.
By Tobias Gilk
“This is absolutely, positively the last MRI project we’re ever going to do!”
So goes an all too common refrain after the regular (and wholly avoidable) headaches from construction delays, cost overruns, and equipment SNAFUs. And while there’s little that can be done to remove the sour taste in your mouth left by the mishaps from the last project, there is quite a bit you can do to improve the total experience for the next ro-around. This is important since the life of an MR is about 7 years and you will be doing this all again.

The Mouse Waits For No One.
Make Sure You're There.
By Tobias Gilk
For those charged with responsibility for your next capital project, you are likely to have a number of questions running through your head:
- Where does MRI fit in to the overall master plan for radiology facility design?
- What are the pro’s and con’s of decentralized imaging services?
- How does departmental design effect future equipment upgrades and replacements?
The answers to these (and many other) questions will be tackled head-on in our forthcoming presentation in just a couple weeks at the AHRA annual meeting. On the afternoon of Monday, July 9th we hope to see you in our presentation on “Complete Radiology Department Planning.”
