MRI Newsletter
July 2007
From The Editors

Robert (Rob) Junk photoHappy MRI Safety Week!

Snuck up on you, did it? Us too. But despite it's unheralded arrival this year, we hope that you will take this opportunity to review what providers and patients alike should know about the safety of MRI. "How," you ask? By visiting the MRI-Safety Week website, of course!

Just two weeks ago, we presented on radiology facility design at the AHRA annual meeting to over 100 masochists who were willing to listen to us for a 3-hour presentation. Two attendees, Karen Herczeg and Donna Blakely, each had their name drawn for a complimentary MRI Suite Peer Review as a door prize!

We were honored to have the support of a number of sponsors who made our presentation possible. Our main sponsor for our presentation on Complete Radiology Department Planning is Kopp Development.

Additional support for our presentation to AHRA's annual meeting is being provided by ETS Lindgren, Tyco Healthcare, and Mass Cabinets.

We were also thrilled to have a last-minute sign-on sponsor, Mednovus, who wasn't recognized in last month's MRI Newsletter.

We have two more confirmed presentations in October of this year. See the 'News Bite' section below for details on these two upcoming sessions.

Have you been following our monthly "Forward to a Friend" promotion? June's winner is Kathleen Kinsella of Georgia, USA. Kathleen shared the MRI Newsletter with eight colleagues and was picked to win a free full-access subscription for the rest of 2007! You can win a full access subscription too. Just use the forward feature at the foot of this email to be automatically entered. Look at the 'Share The News' section below for all the details.

As always, we hope that you will contact us if you have any questions about anything you read in the newsletter, or if we can be of any assistance to you.

Magnet Upgrade Path

Part 2 of 2

By Tobias Gilk

Last month we discussed the operational, clinical and incidental considerations to keep in mind as you think about the inevitability of future upgrades and replacements. These are the timeline path issues for your future equipment needs, but what about the more elementary path… how you will actually get the old magnet out of your building and a new one in? When this path isn’t defined and protected, sometimes the only way to get old MRI equipment out is cut up into tiny pieces.
