Can't get enough of "Accidents, Injuries and Regulation in the MRI Suite"? I don't blame you!
No, I'm not talking about actually having accidents, injuries and regulation, I'm talking about joining us for our presentation entitled "Accidents, Injuries and Regulation in the MRI Suite."
In October, Tobias Gilk and I will be offering this presentation to American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM), and we'd love to see you there!
We were honored to have the support of a number of sponsors who made our presentation possible. Our main sponsor for our presentation is Kopp Development.
Additional support for our presentation to ASHRM's annual meeting is being provided by ETS Lindgren, Covidien, and Mednovus.
And if MRI accidents and regulation aren't your thing, perhaps you'd like to join us a couple of days later at the SMRT Syracuse Regional conference where we'll be presenting on MRI suite design (a subject near and dear to our hearts). Thanks to ETS Lindgren and Everbrite Technologies for making this presentation possible.
See the 'News Bite' section below for details and links to these two upcoming presentations.
Have you been following our monthly "Forward to a Friend" promotion? September's winner is Lynn Collier of New Mexico, USA. Lynn shared the MRI Newsletter with colleagues and was picked to win a free full-access subscription for the rest of 2007! You can win a full access subscription too. Just use the forward feature at the foot of this email to be automatically entered. Look at the 'Share The News' section below for all the details.
And following last month's article on MRI videos, blogs all over have begun reposting a number of the videos we made available, and have come up with several interesting ones that we don't (yet) have on our top-secret video page. There's the GE safety video that reminds me of safety films from high school, another oxygen cylinder video, and a thank-goodness-nobody-died-so-we-can-laugh video from our friend Moriel Ness Aiver's SimplyPhysics.com website showing 3 guys in an ill advised attempt to remove a chair from the bore of a magnet.
As always, we hope that you will contact us if you have any questions about anything you read in the newsletter, or if we can be of any assistance to you.

Share The News,
Win A Subscription!
As a special offer, we are now offering one free full-access subscription each month. When you use the 'Forward This To A Colleague' button at the foot of each emailed newsletter, we will pick one person at random to receive a free full-access subscription for the remainder of the year.
Forward the MRI Newsletter to your colleagues (use the link at the foot of this email) and you will have a chance to win a free year's subscription. Forward it to 5 or 10 MRI colleagues and you help to assure that we'll draw your name!

New MRI Design Guide
Part II of II
By Robert Junk, AIA, AHRA and Tobias Gilk
Last month we introduced you to the forthcoming Veterans Administration (VA) MRI Design Guide, which we have been privileged to contribute to, and provided links to a handful of space-planning tools that the VA makes available for imaging services for use in identifying raw area needs. This month we’re following up with a sneak peek at a number of provisions in the draft MRI Design Guide which we hope to see published prior to the end of the year.

Post-DRA 'Bounce'?
By Tobias Gilk
It’s anecdotal. It’s imprecise. And it appears to be happening.
The diagnostic imaging world has been in a DRA-inspired holding-pattern regarding capital equipment purchases for a year now. And while the true measure of the DRA’s impact is still being evaluated, it is becoming increasingly clear that we’re reaching the threshold of how long the medical imaging world can hold its breath.
We’re beginning to see increasing numbers of [deep exhale] MRI providers moving their capital projects towards the front burner, for a number of reasons…

When You Know Enough To Be Scared...
By Tobias Gilk
To some, I appear to be a zealot on issues of MRI safety. This I know.
Every so often this spurs me to rethink whether the level of concern I have about safe and efficient MRI services is warranted. Call it what you like, a gut-check, a crisis of self, or simple introspection, it happens periodically. Usually I emerge from this period gradually - confident once again that this work is valuable to MRI staff, administrators and patients.
I won’t be having any periods of self-doubt on this subject for quite some time now. “Why,” you ask? Because I accompanied my wife while she received an MRI this week and what I saw scared me.
