Welcome, once again, to the final of the MRI Newsletter's three public issues for 2007. In just a few weeks we will be ringing-in the new year, and we're looking foward to having you with us again for what is sure to be an exciting year.
If you receive the complimentary version of the newsletter, there has never been a better time to subscribe than right now. This public issue will give you a glimpse into what your colleagues get every month (without the subscription reminder screens). We are also running a special promotion for those of you who would like to upgrade to the full-access version of the newsletter for all of 2008. If you act before December 31st, the link below will let you pocket $20 off of the regular subscription price.
Even at the full subscription rate of $120 for 2008, if the entire year's advice only helps you to get only one additional patient through, you've paid for the subscription many, many times over. We bet that you'll find many articles, over the course of the year, that will be helpful to you.
Have you been following our monthly "Forward to a Friend" promotion? If not, this is the perfect time to acquaint yourself! As a Public Access issue, all of the feature articles are available. Don't be reluctant, take this opportunity to share this issue with a friend or colleague. We do not (can not) collect information about who you forward copies to... only whether you have.
November's winner of our "Forward to a Friend" promotion is Annika Lawrence of Missouri, USA. Annika shared the MRI Newsletter with colleagues and was picked to win a free full-access subscription for all of 2008! You can win a full access subscription too. Just use the forward feature at the foot of this email to be automatically entered. Look at the 'Share The News' section below for all the details.
As always, please contact us if you have questions about anything you read in the newsletter, or if we can be of any assistance to you.

Share The News,
Win A Subscription!
As a special offer, we are now awarding one free full-access subscription each month. When you use the 'Forward This To A Colleague' button at the foot of each emailed newsletter, we will pick one person at random to receive a free full-access subscription for the remainder of the year.
Forward the MRI Newsletter to your colleagues (use the link at the foot of this email) and you will have a chance to win a free year's subscription. Forward it to 5 or 10 MRI colleagues and you help to assure that we'll draw your name! But you must use the link at the bottom of this email if you want to be entered into this month's drawing!

Look For Our 2008 Presentation Dates...
We're inching closer to the start of 2008 and we're already actively working on setting up our presentation calendar for next year. In the next weeks and months, we'll be posting information on our presentations right here! Check each month to see if we're speaking at a conference you want to attend, and come join us.
Are you interested in having us present at an event you're organizing? We'd love to hear from you and see how we can help your next professional or corporate event. Please contact us to inquire about the presentations we can provide.

Tesla Wars
By Robert Junk, AIA, AHRA and Tobias Gilk
Welcome to the ‘Tesla Wars,’ values for which are now threatening double-digits. Most recently, the University of Illinois at Chicago trumpeted their new 9.4 Tesla MRI for head scans, which has just cleared safety testing. Promoted as the “worlds most powerful MRI for decoding the human brain,” the UIC system may have a short claim to the title as a project sponsored by the French atomic energy commission and administered by Neurospin promises an 11.7 Tesla MRI!
As contemporary clinical and research sites wrestle with the adoption pains of popularly available 3.0 Tesla systems, these quantum leap technologies may be illuminating the path forward. But if contemporary MR systems can produce high-quality diagnostic images, why the rush to greater field strengths?

RSNA Follow-Up:
New MRI Shield Systems.
By Tobias Gilk
This year’s RSNA might have been appropriately dubbed ‘the year of the CT’, what with 256 and 320-slice products being unveiled in the exhibit hall. Despite the buzz emanating from the slice wars, there were many new offerings that are likely to be of interest to you and other readers of the MRI Newsletter. Over the next few months, we will be featuring a few of these products. This month, we begin with new MRI shield materials. Kajima Corporation of Japan unveiled two revolutionary new products for MR shielding, one for RF windows and another for magnetic shielding.

The Year Of Living Safely?!
By Tobias Gilk
Yes, it was one full year ago this month that we alerted you to the imminent release of MRI safety sentinel event from the Joint Commission. Late in 2006 the Joint Commission’s Sentinel Event Advisory Board authored what was to become Sentinel Event Alert number 38 on MRI safety. In February of 2007, the as yet unreleased Alert was revised in the wake of the release of the ACR’s Guidance Document for Safe MR Practices: 2007. To the best of our knowledge, the revised manuscript for this alert has been ready and awaiting release since March, which begs the question, “why haven’t we seen it?”
