September, 2004

Junk Architects is pleased to bring you the latest in MRI information specific to your planning, design and safety considerations.

When 'Safe' Isn't Safe Enough:
A Life Saving Vocabulary Lesson.
What a MRI Suite Safety Consultant Does:

We’re all guilty. All of us professionals, vendors and consultants who push for enhanced MRI safety. Despite our best intentions, by venerating the term “Safety,” we have trampled the FDA’s ill-fated effort at establishing an industry-wide vocabulary. While safety is the goal for all MRI facilities, the FDA wants us to know that there’s something more safe than safe...

I know I'm not alone. I know that the motor oil available at the auto dealer across town is the same oil that's available at the lube-and-oil place down the street. What's the point of paying more, driving farther, and waiting longer for the same oil and the same filter? I'd wager that you do the same...

More Of Your Feedback

We must have really struck a nerve because we continue to be astounded by the response to our newsletter articles. The magnetic contamination article from the July Newsletter was picked up by Aunt Minnie as a feature, and is being reprinted in 'Radiology Today' section of Medical Dealer magazine (September issue). The story has also raised the interest of Diagnostic Imaging magazine (September issue), SCAN newsletter (August 18 issue) and RadiologyToday magazine (unscheduled), all of whom interviewed us in the last few weeks.

Magnetic Contamination Seminar
Don't Miss It!

Following after our popular articles on the subject, we have recently been invited to present on the issues and risks of magnetic contamination at the 17th annual 'National Symposium on Healthcare Design' later this month. We will be presenting to architects, designers and hospital staff charged with the decisions that affect MRI suites across the country.

We invite you to join us in Las Vegas for this conference for a concentrated introduction to the facility issues of magnetic contamination. We would also like to offer a special thank you to Lindgren RF Shielding, our gracious sponsor for this presentation.

AHRA Recap:

Thank you to everyone who made our August presentation to AHRA, "Avoiding MRI Disasters," such a success! Thank you to the great people at AHRA, and to everyone who attended. We were honored that so many of you stayed after (some as long as 90 minutes) to share your questions and information. The reference links from our presentation, co-sponsored by Mednovus, makers of ferrous-only detectors, and Magmedix, vendors for all things MR-safe, can be found by following the link below...

Following the presentation, Robert and I were each so excited to draw the name of our winner of the complimentary in-office MRI Suite Safety Audit, that each of us pulled a name from the hat without the other knowing. As a result, we decided to go ahead and honor both attendees with a complimentary MRI Suite Safety Audit. Congratulations to Katleen Holton and to Jeanne Slazinik for both winning an audit for your facilities!

Share the Love - Share the News

Know of someone who you think would like to receive this newsletter? Let us know and we'll invite them, on your behalf. And if you've tried the referral form before, only to have it malfunction, that problem is now fixed.

Our responsibility to you, our reader, is to bring you the news on MRI facility planning and safety that simply isn't available from any other source. This information wil enable you to obtain better images, provide better patient care, create safer environments for patients and staff, and improve the financial performance of your facility. We also strive to provide you with ways you can make an immediate impact as well as long-term tools to improve your facility.

An Important Change On The Horizon

Our newsletter distribution keeps growing and our readers keep asking us to include vital planning, design and safety information that just can't be found elsewhere. While we are excited that this newsletter keeps growing in both content and distribution, the expenses associated with its production have grown too.

Just so you know, we have no plans to cut back! In fact, we only hope to continue to grow the newsletter (with your help). But to do this we are going to be moving to a paid subscription format around the first of the year. We will make a few editions of the newsletter public every year, but most full editions will only go to subscribers.

We are still working out the details and welcome your thoughts on this change. Watch the next couple editions of the newsletter for important information on how and when we will be implementing our new subscription policy.
